In the heart of Transposia, nestled between a defunct laser tag arena and a suspiciously well-funded ferret sanctuary, sits Rewind Kingdom, the last surviving video store in the region. Behind the counter, surrounded by stacks of dusty anime box sets and bootleg rom-coms, stands Ryan Pebbles, 25, former film studies dropout, current VHS whisperer.
Ryan’s days are spent recommending obscure horror flicks to confused teens and arguing with regulars about the superiority of widescreen formats. But change is brewing. Rumor has it that Small Peenie University — the crown jewel of Transposian academia — is eagerly awaiting Ryan’s application. The admissions office even sent him a glittery postcard that read:
“Ryan Pebbles, we want you. Apply now. Or don’t. But we’ll be sad.”
Meanwhile, on campus, Professor Tifa Lockhart, head of the Department of Applied Punching and Cinematic Theory, has been dropping hints in her lectures. Last week, she paused mid-slide and said:
“If Ryan Pebbles were here, he’d know why The Seventh Seal is basically Final Fantasy VII with better lighting.”
The student press — Small Peenie Student Press, naturally — is already preparing a cover story: “From Rewind to Rebirth: The Pebbles Era Begins?”
